Finnigan Neptune

Facilities

Our ThermoFinnigan Triton thermal ionization mass spectrometer (TIMS) and ThermoFinnigan Neptune multicollector inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometer (MC-ICPMS) allow researchers to perform precise isotopic ratio and isotope dilution analyses of the B, Ca, Rb-Sr, Sm-Nd, Lu-Hf, U-Th, U-Pb, common Pb, W systems and non-conventional isotope systems such as Li, K, Mg, Fe, Cu, Zn, Mo. The IGGRC also houses three class-1000 clean laboratories for sample preparation. Our goal is to promote innovative research in isotope geochemistry and geochronology.

The Isotope Geochemistry and Geochronology Research Centre (IGGRC) housed at Carleton University supports the research programs of Ottawa-Carleton Geoscience Centre members and other research collaborators. We provide "hands-on" training for students and other scientists. Researchers will normally provide and analyze their own samples on the mass spectrometers; however, we also carry out contract work for isotope geochemistry utilizing the Rb-Sr, Sm-Nd, Lu-Hf, U-Pb, common Pb. isotopic systems.
